My friend, Crystal, and I decided to go on a camping trip to Flaming Gorge, Utah. It was a seven and a half hour drive from my apartment to the campsite. I thought it would be fun to remember our trip through the food we cooked and ate.We started our day off with some McDonald’s breakfasts to fuel us on our way. We stopped on the way at the Dinosaur National Monument to see the dinosaur bone quarry. Quite the sight. It’s a wall of bones that were discovered and left bare for visitors to see. We had lunch at the visitor center near Dinosaur, Colorado. We had some peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches on wheat bread with butterscotch pudding and chips. It’s surprising how hungry one can get from just driving around in a car.
We finally arrived at the campsite in the evening. We were staying in the Deer Run campground. After we set up the tent and bedrolls, we rewarded ourselves with dinner. We had brought some firewood and there was a fire pit on our site. Crystal started a fire and we settled down in some camping chairs next to it. For dinner, we put cheddarwurst sausages on metal skewers and roasted them in the fire. Fire makes everything taste better. The cheese was hot and oozing out of the sausage. We ate them on buns with mustard. I ended up squirting mustard all over my chest when I opened the container. So much for that shirt! We rested with some Woodchuck ciders and watched the fire after that.
