Family Reunion- Larson Langdon Meals

My mom’s cousin Karen and her two sons managed the next few meals at the reunion.  The Langdon family is from Texas.  Dinner for that night was grilled steaks.  Normally, us Coloradans would say that we had “barbecued” steak but we were corrected.  Barbecuing includes smoking and preparing the meat way beforehand.  Putting the meat on a hot grill is called grilling.  So, we had grilled, juicy steaks.  Alongside these we had giant baked potatoes.  They were double the size of normal potatoes and were served with sour cream and chives as well as a salad made with lettuce grown in the ranch garden.  Strangely enough, the ranch garden does not grow ranch dressing.  It was a nice big Texan meal.

The Langdons’ lunch was grilled hot dogs with potato chips.  I ate mine out on the picnic table enjoying the grass and the sun.  The grill wasn’t being ignored on this vacation!  It was a simpler meal but no less delicious.

The next breakfast was also covered by the Langdon family.  They made something called Migas.  This is a Spanish word meaning scraps or crumbs.  The sons cooked up bacon, eggs, cheese, onions and peppers in a skillet.  The bacon was a fat type of bacon that almost looked like ham.  I hadn’t seen bacon like that before though it did remind me of the lardon bacon in France.  The family served the breakfast mixture with tortillas like a breakfast burrito.  The plates they served up were so big that I shared one with my mom and dad.  I guess everything is bigger in Texas!
